A romantic picnic is a sweet date idea to share feelings of love and fondness and to spend quality time with a special person. Delicious picnic foods add a lot.

Food always seems to taste better in a romantic spot. Some good picnic areas include places with fond memories, at a pretty table in a park or the backyard, at a place with a beautiful view, or even in the living room with a pretty quilt spread on the floor.

Fabulous Romantic Picnic Food Choices

A delicious meal for two might be something very simple. A nice platter with a variety of fruit, cheese, and freshly baked bread can be lovely and delicious.

Delicious fruits that travel and pack easily include grapes, apple slices (dipped in a bit of lemon to keep them fresh-looking), and olives.

Some special cheese choices might include Gouda, Brie, Chevre, and Swiss.

Bread choices could be a fresh baked French bread baguette, small rye bread slices, or some buttery and soft croissants.

Wine?

If wine is to be included in the romantic picnic, Diana De Cicco, in the article Wine and Cheese How-To, recommends the following for pairing various cheese with various wines:

  • “Pairing cheese and wine is highly a matter of personal choice…”
  • “As a rule, you want to pair bigger wines with bigger cheeses and lighter wines with milder cheeses…”
  • “Pair according to texture. Red wine is usually best with hard cheese and white wine with soft.”

Other Beverages Choices

If wine will not be included, the bubbles in a quality sparkling water (flavored or plain) add charm to the evening. There are also very nice non-alcoholic champagne-style sparkling juices on the market. A sweet idea is to bring along beautiful glasses to toast the relationship.

Keep the Picnic Simple and Focus on Romance

Keeping things simple allows a couple to focus on enjoying a delicious meal together. Enjoying the company is, of course, the whole reason for the picnic. Serving simple foods and drinks leaves time for talking, laughing, and perhaps a kiss or two.

Picnic Dessert Ideas

Dessert for two should be creamy and luscious and something in which both individuals will delight. Bakeries often carry lovely miniature chocolate-covered cakes, slices of delicious tortes, and other small treats.

On Slashfood (online), Nicole Weston writes in her article Top Four Most Romantic Desserts, that her top four choices are:

  • “Molten Chocolate Cake,” (also known as chocolate lava cake)
  • “Panna cotta - a custard-like dessert made of cream and barely held together with gelatin”
  • “Anne's Truffle Filled Raspberries”
  • Fondue, because it “allows you to have fun with your food by dipping a variety of tasty tidbits in delicious sauces.” She recommends dipping an “assortment of strawberries, bananas, oranges, marshmallows and cubed pound cake” in chocolate or white chocolate. This last idea would not be very portable for an outdoor picnic, but would work well for one held at home.

Whatever foods are served at a picnic for two, the event is sure to be sweet and memorable.
